Ashleigh Jewett, LCSW

Vision

I understand that every single person has been molded and formed by their environments around them. Sometimes, that leads us to being a person that we no longer want to be, which is when therapy can be helpful. In order for effective change to take place, therapy must be a safe and welcoming place in order for you to feel comfortable learning and discovering which route to take in your self-discovery journey. I prefer to be the passenger while you are in the driver’s seat telling me the route you want to take, and me helping you navigate the way to get there. I can’t promise that the journey will always be rainbows and sunshine, there will be tough truths and strategies that seem hard to implement, but the destination will be one that you have longed for and are ready to receive.

Background

I earned my master’s in social work with a clinical concentration at Baylor University. During my master’s program, I interned at the International Rescue Committee in Abilene, Texas where I assisted refugees in acclimating to America. After moving to the San Antonio area after completing my master’s program, I obtained a position with The Center for Healthcare Services, which is the local county’s mental health authority. Here I gained so much knowledge and experience providing services to clients experiencing early onset psychosis, and providing clients the support they need to get through one of the toughest times of their life. Following this position, I moved to private practice where I engaged in conducting psychological assessments to children and adults, along with therapy services to families, children, and adults. It has been so rewarding to be a part of so many people’s lives in some of the most vulnerable times of their lives.

I discovered my passion for helping others throughout my childhood and have continued to use this passion as a powerful tool for empowering clients. I approach each session with precision and care, providing valuable insights that help individuals better understand themselves and make informed decisions about their mental health. My professional experience includes working with clients to address various mental health concerns and life challenges. My ability to connect with people from all walks of life allows me to foster a genuine, collaborative space where clients feel heard and respected. I believe that people can create their desired life. As we work together we can uncover your strengths, identify areas for growth, and develop actionable plans to achieve your goals. Let's work together to help equip you with the knowledge and tools to build a healthier, more fulfilling life.

I am trained in the following therapeutic modalities: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR,) Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT,) Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT,) Solution-Focused Therapy, and Family therapy. Depending on your goals and presenting concerns, we can work together to formulate a Treatment Plan that we are hopeful and ready for!

Ashleigh’s style

Ashleigh believes that sometimes, we need someone to be honest with us and let us know when we what they observe is going on. Because of this, Ashleigh will utilize a mix of compassion, empathy, but also directness. She won’t demean you or throw judgement your way, but she will point out patterns and trends that she notices, especially if they may be halting progress.

Depending on the situation you are sharing, Ashleigh may focus on the past and how the past is impacting your present self. Most of where Ashleigh tends to focus is the present and even the future: What can we do now that can help today not be as difficult? Ashleigh will take individualize this answer based on you and your story.

Ashleigh believes that you, as the client, are the driver and she is along for the ride helping navigate different routes to take. There’s going to be bumps in the road, it is going to be hard and filled with effort, there’s going to be good times and bad times still, but before you know it, you’ll be miles and miles away from where you started. With a different perspective. Improved. Help us help you. Reach out today to start the journey of taking control of your life back.

During our initial sessions, we will dive into the issues you are experiencing and create a treatment plan together. Most of my clients see a gradual lifting of symptoms within the first month and sustained improvement thereafter. The more you utilize strategies learned in sessions, the greater the chance of improvement. Let's schedule a session together and start our journey!

My focus

I believe my skill set lies in helping clients understand what is going on internally, gaining self-awareness, and providing strategies to help them work towards their goals. I enjoy helping clients from various walks of life with different reasons that are bringing them to me.

My communication style

I prefer to be direct, challenge why you do certain things, and most likely will provide strategies for you to try and utilize between sessions. I find that providing strategies between sessions and being direct helps move the therapeutic process along, since you and I are both invested in figuring out what works and what doesn't work efficiently.

My first session with you

Our first session together will be you gathering information about my style and what I have to offer in order to determine if you think we'd be a great fit for each other. I will also be gathering information about you, your goals for therapy, and what you are looking for in a therapist to determine if I can help you reach your goals. It will be more of a conversation style.
